Upward Sweep Picking Licks

In this 2 minute lesson, I’ll show you a couple of upward sweep picking ideas.

Sweep picking? Yeah, I’m not talking about replacing your pick with a broom! No, it’s simple means we sweep, or rake, the pick across multiple strings, in one motion. In this case, upwards.

It can be a handy technique in some situations. I usually use this technique for a short “cascade” of 2-3 notes, if I want to play a certain style of phrase or lick. You can of course do much more elaborate “sweeps” than this. If you want to hear a player who really knows how to use sweep picking, check out Frank Gambale.
