Not even counting my questionable timing and form, there are some mistakes, and it isn't up to speed yet.

Someone let me know if you can see this YouTube video link. I'm not seeing anything on my iPhone.

I see an embedded YouTube video in your first post.

Nice job with the video and the playing. I expect Robert will be able to see it. Good show!

Good show, indeed!  Give that man a prize for stepping up, playing the blues AND posting a video.  I'd like to hear your thoughts on the experience after Robert's review.

Muchos Gracias!

Here's my response - quite a bit of universal and practical advice in there as well. So naturally, all members should view this one.

Robert, thank you for the excellent review.  Sorry it took so long for my response; I watched it when you first posted it but finally got to review it and take notes today.

Lots of good ideas for me and everyone.  Starting the phrase on a different count and then mixing it up is interesting.  Just staying in time while starting on the 1 count is all I'm handling now, but that will be a good next progression.

Resolving the riff with a short phrase or just a single note on different notes depending on the corresponding chord is cool.  I tried to do that at the beginning riff of my performance and I'm trying to hear it and use it more, like guide tones which I think are usually thirds and sevenths.

Using space is another good idea that I forget about.  Unless, of course, if I can't think of anything to play….

Developing a second idea or phrase as a response or answer would indeed really mix things up, and make it more interesting.  I'll try incorporating that into this and see what happens.

Other good suggestions are accenting the downbeat with a downstroke, and practicing that while doing scales.  Ironically I tend to use downstrokes too much and have been trying to make myself alternate pick more, so I guess I throw in upstrokes whenever I think of it now.  I'm trying to plan where I up and down pick depending on what is most efficient in a riff that I'm learning over and over.

I also like your idea about milking a phrase or even two notes and mixing up triplets and other timings.  Not as easy as it sounds for me.  When I play triplets I tend to get stuck in that cadence. Gotta work on it.

Also a good suggestion to find a rhythm and play with various note combinations to it.  That is a lot of fun, at least when it goes well.

So thank you again for all of the excellent feedback and suggestions.  That should keep me out of trouble for a while.

Tom
