On playback I can here that it sounds kinda thin, maybe because I had no effects or gain just clean. Any suggestions on recording playing with backing track? I tried to stay with the root of the chord in the changes but not all of it sounds very bluesy to me. Any feedback good
I think it's terrific! I'll be back with more detailed feedback next week!
Don't get too hung up on tone, looks like a nice tweed amp and tele. Tone can get altered by mics and placement or other input sources. Besides, you can always add some dirt to clean tones, but clean means its all on you and no hiding behind the grind- that's a good thing to help evaluate even if it is not the best tone for a performance.
Woody, I liked your approach and especially enjoyed your choice of vibrato. I'll leave RR to giving the instruction since he's The Master. My one remark would be what I always say: Try to get into the groove of the blues beat and rhythm, let your foot tap and move with the beat so that it permeates you and comes out in your playing as a natural element of what you are feeling.
And you'll get a lot further with recording and sharing- Really Nice Work stepping up to the microphone and camera!
Ist this your first attempt at your own blues solo?. I would say I am anxious to hear the second, the third and so on.....
Congratulations, very well done...
Esteban
Good words from Ivan and Doc Blues himself- those two know the blues sound and how to find it in a guitar.
I was waiting for Mister Master Guitar himself to reply before I commented but I think I'll jump in as well now.
I thought you did a great job, well played, good clean solid notes, played cleanly and deliberately, nice subtle bluesy bends and nice melody too.
I did not think it sounded thin and thought it would fall nicely into the mix were there a full backing band in place.
Along with Esteban, I too am looking forward to your future recordings. Well done.
Oh and one other thing ... Woody - if you wouldn't mind going over some of the recording details... how did you get the drum track... ? did you record direct or via microphone...
Thanks
Your first blues solo sounds wonderful Woody.
All your notes are clean and well executed.
The most important question ... did you have fun ?
If not, why not ? If you did have fun, then everything else
is irrelevant. To me it sounds like you're having fun !
Keep on breaking the rules !!
Spot On, Tawmy- Are you having fun?!!
I got the backing track on you tube, put it on my mp3 player and plugged that into a Fender Frontman 15G (little practice amp with Aux input), guitar thru Roland Blues Cube and recorded with my iMac built-in mic and camera.
Thx all for the encouragement
Thanks for sharing the details Woody....
Woody, you got great sound for recording from a built in mic placed so far from the sound sources.
Put a mic close up to the speaker next time and the sound will be much fuller.
I'll try that thx
I will do a video response next week - just don't have enough time this week. I'm a chaperone for my daughter's band trip to B.C! The kids get to be "professionals" - riding on a bus and stopping at different places to perform. Gone from Thu-Sun.
The good thing is that members have more time to submit their videos for my review next week. Keep em' coming!
Band... road trip...and teenagers. Whew!
