I just bought an Acer 14 Chromebook. Haven't received it yet. I was wondering if anyone has used a Chromebook to record themselves.
I searched the Internet and found something called https://www.soundtrap.com/
Wondering if anyone has used it. I've never recorded myself other than just setting Android phone on the table and pointing it at me. Sounds terrible. I would rather concentrate on playing then trying to use some complicated software to record.
Thanks,
Bill
Keep in mind simple is good. As you said you would rather concentrate on playing then trying to use some complicated software to record....
Some webcams can do a decent job... and are very simple.
I suspect you are a Windoze user... or you might be talking Garage Band. If that is the case, I might suggest that you take a look at
- Audacity - Free - http://www.audacityteam.org
- Reaper - Not free - a bit more robust - lot of tutorials, forums... http://www.reaper.fm/
There is a learning curve, as with anything. Reaper's web site has a full video course available for using Reaper
Recording is a great tool to helps you hear and improve your playing. In addition, you can review older recordings after a time and see/hear your progress. And oh yeah you can submit recordings to MGA for encouragement, helpful advice, tips...
Sorry I don't have any experience with Chromebooks but hope my answer will still be somewhat helpful.
Good luck
<edit - I don't know why the Audacity link shows up as "Home" but it links to Audacity's web site>
Thanks for the info. Actually, I have Audacity but my computer is so old the sound is all crackly. That's why I bought this Chromebook because it was only $300. The Soundtrap site lets you export mp3 files so I could load those to the MGA site. Not sure yet if it will let me import a backing track.
How are you connecting your guitar to the PC?
Have you tried using headphones... is the crackling still there when you use the headphones?
I'm using a Alpha Lexicon. Yes, I've used headphones. I did have it working before where it sounded ok but something go messed up. I haven't spent the time to try and figure it out. Now I have this Chromebook and I'm going to try soundtrap. You can import backing tracks too so I think it might work well for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing how it goes. Good luck. When are you going to have the Chromebook?
Sorry Chris, I just saw this. Better late than never! 🙂
Actually, I returned the Chromebook and bought a Dell XPS 15 Touch.
Thanks for the help.
