Here's an improvised lead I recorded yesterday. I tried many takes and ideas before I got a take I liked.
Soulful like BB King with virtuosly played bendings and vibratos 👍. Your feeling for the strings is just great, Robert.
I'm excited and deeply impressed.
Birgit
Thank you!
Yeah, it's great value in studying him. I highly recommend it! Thanks!
Your second solo is also beautiful, empathic and tasty, Robert. I have to repeat myself, but your bendings and vibratos just sound great. Big compliment.
In your last member mail you’ve indicated how you found your way to the style of BB King.
This mail makes me think that I can very well imagine you making a whole lesson on this topic, maybe with a few licks and explanations how you approached these licks in the course of your guitar life and how you may have overcome difficulties in studying his style.
Birgit
Thanks Birgit! Yes I want to make a course in this style.
The short answer to how to do it is to copy his licks as close as you can. I never did that when I was young. I thought it seemed too easy and boring. I now know - it's not!
Nowadays, it's easier to learn these things with slow down software and looping etc (like videosurgeon) than when I started playing.
I also think that it's important to use his style to suit your own style. Change the vibrato/bends etc to fit into your way of playing. Change a few notes here and there but make sure to remember the overall approach. Then blend it into your solos as best you can. Over time, you will end up finding that very valuable in your solos. That I am confident of.
Hi everyone,. here is an attempt at the BB slow blues.
That is great playing, Craig. Thank you for doing this!
It's not easy to play great in this style, for me at least. What do you say, Craig? Is it easy for you? It's of course subjective, but perhaps you know what I'm getting at. Medium tempo blues is easy to just bang out a few notes but I find it much harder with slow blues. The timing is harder because the phrasing is often different, with more "free time" licks - not using specific note values like 1/8th, 16/th notes, etc.
Dude, that was simmering goodness. Talk about restraint and getting that slow blues vibe! It's always a good day when I hear you play.
