Here's a Free Android based drum app that makes a great metronome practice tool:. LOOPZ by Black Envelope/Paul Davids.
This has an excellent variety of beat genres with very lively drum sounds. You can alter the tempo and volume easily.
What I love about these samples is the strong beat and variety of accents which allows me to focus on where I am placing the practice notes and how different things sound depending on the guitar/bass notes.
Sure, you can practice chord changes, scales runs, triads, double stops, whatever, BUT some of my favorite practices are playing 3 or 4 note phrases and focusing on accenting. No need for lots of notes, just good timing and tone.
Clayton, I also use LOOPZ. I tried the app after you mentioned it in a previous post. Very easy to use and very versatile. I have some favorites (Shuffle 16th, Perc Beat, Cissy Groove). Even a Shaker is there, but I haven’t used it yet.
The bpm selection range is also well matched.
I agree that the beat is very strong – a big advantage over an ordinary metronome - gives a better drive when playing.
What I also like to do is browse on Youtube. I’ve already found some very good drum loops there.
