It's that time of year again. Once again, I tackle Jingle Bells Blues, Robert's great lesson. What a fun lesson it is. It almost puts this grinch in the spirit. Almost. And I usually (annually) post about this 🙄 🤣 I even posted a couple years ago my playing the melody and Rhtm section. but i gotta get it all down including the solo.
Once again, is this the year? Will I finish Jingle Bells Blues this year?!
Starting again today!! How do you bet?
Ron that was before my time here at MGA. I saw your Jingle Bells Blues video for the first time today, I’m thrilled, you did a very good job!
By the way, this video has a surprising side effect for me: finally!!! I saw some of your guitars in the background. Great. That’s definitely not all of them 😉 ?
And, yes, you can do the solo, trust in Clayton 👍.
Birgit
P.S. A great piece and a big compliment to Robert.
@bluesiline thank you! And, of course I trust in @Clayton!!! 😉
re: the guitars. That photo, as I recall, only showed a couple acoustics and my Gibson 325. I have a guy coming, hopefully in the next week, that is going to hang some slat wall panels in my music room/man cave. Then I am going to hang all the guitars with slat wall guitar hangers and then get a "family" photo. I hope I can post that in the next couple weeks at most!
@matonanjin Ron, Perhaps the "family" photo could double as a Christmas Card.
Speaking of music rooms, I'm relocating Deep C Studios to a larger space (16x10) in the bowels of Casa Clayton. I'm running lots of fiberglass batting and creating two surfaces: 1 wall and the ceiling which will be massive sound absorbtion panels finished in 10 oz Duck Cloth Canvas. On the other two walls I have grommeted sound blankets (8' x 6.5' each) from VocalBoothtoGo.com. The grommets will allow me to hang the blankets on a rod and to move them as needed to lively up the room sound or make it super quiet. AND, I'm running an isolated 20amp circuit just for outlets (separate from the lighting circuit). Add a little mood lighting and some slightly 60s/70s accent items and presto- the new and improved Deep C Studios!
I gotta have room to Rock.
Ron, you can do it!
Perhaps I should make an easier version of this tune as a lesson sometime... won't have time this year though.
I'm getting closer!
But posting here for two reasons:
1) I am getting closer. On lick 5 or 6 of the solo. Not that anyone is really following my progress on this lesson. If you are, get a life! 😆
2) We can't let it go any longer here without a post. It's been a week since a post. Where is everybody? Shopping? Do like I do. Yeah, I'm one of the husbands out there Christmas Eve! 😉
No, @robert I don't think you should make an easier version of this. Your efforts are probably better invested elsewhere. As you said in the lesson it is not that difficult, probably intermediate level "although parts of the solo are challenging".
Hey Ron, I am looking forward with excitement to hear you play this! Can't wait!
I've been busy working on a lesson about how to play a cool jazzy blues lick in all 12 keys. I was hoping to have it before Christmas but it's probably more likely to come a few days after Christmas.

Right, you are, Ron! And I ask myself in the holi-days, WWJD? Hey, all joking aside, it is too quiet for a music forum. Hmmm, perhaps I have to fire up GarageBand.... Last night I was hanging with fellow jam mates having an acoustic session using a nice nylon string Spanish classical guitar (pawnshop find), a Seagull acoustic with cutaway, and Taylor GS-mini. I was amazed at what ideas and sounds my buddies were expressing. Playing with others is such good stuff
Meanwhile- Merry Christmas everyone!

Fantastic, @robert, sounds like Big Medicine!
