@Robert, do you have a course that you can recommend to improve my speed?  Or maybe a practice, a routine, to do so.  I thought that it would just naturally increase with continued practice over time.  But I seem to have hit a wall when it comes to increasing speed of playing.

As you know, I continue to work Jingle Bells Blues.  Even though it is now far past the season 😉 And as you also know I had you give me a slower version of Lick 9 of the solo.  But there are a couple other licks I just can't get up to speed.

As long as I have now been at this I don't think I'm being impatient.  And I don't want to be a shredder!!  I should be playing fast than I am at this point.   You suggestion during the Zoom lesson of getting my thumb of the fretting hand lower is definitely helping things.  Thank you for that!

But what can I work on to improve my speed?

That's a difficult question to answer generically. It depends on what kind of technique you use and also how fast/slow you currently are.

I think the best approach is to tweak licks and make them easier to fit your ability. I can help with that too.

For technique practice, you can play scales and licks to a metronome tempo you are comfortable with but then you gradually increase that tempo a little bit every day or every practice session.

@Robert, I knew it would be a "difficult question to answer generically."  Maybe another lesson to specifically look at this, at my playing?  The lesson a couple weeks ago was very helpful.  But we were working on the Jingle Bells Blues licks. With a lesson now you could look at "how fast/slow you currently are".  And then make recomendations?

And you can give me direction on "tweaking the licks".  Working with licks and the metronome is probably going to be pretty straight forward.

Are you going to have time for another lesson?  If so, I'll email you.

For sure, I will make time for you. Need a week or so before I am available.

Yoou need a week or so and then shorthly after that we are on the Blues Cruise for a week, which I posted about,  and then going down to the Florida Keys for a short week.  I don't want to take the lesson and not be able to practice what you teach me.  Let's put it off until I'm back.

Looking forward to it when I get back!
