Working on E  Major Pent Position about 3 hr on that.  Also working on (which I learned years ago; Pentatonic forms with blue notes.  Question red and black circles on E major tabs.  I know the red one, but the numbers in the black circles I can't figure out? Thanks.  About 2 hr on E-Major.

Hello Al Blais

The pitches of the E major scale are:

       F♯      G♯      A       B       C♯        D♯

Root   2nd    3rd     4th    5th     6th      7th

The E Major pentatonic consists only of the 5 notes of the E major scale :

root, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th

The root note is E (red circle)

The black circles are:

delta 2 :    means 2nd scale degree  F♯

delta 3 :    means 3rd scale degree  G♯

delta p5 :  means perfect fifth, fifth scale degree  B

delta 6 :    means 6th scale degree  C♯

I hope I could help you with my explanation.

Enjoy playing, Birgit
