Hey, today I'm bringing to your attention a VERY important step of learning. Everyone is here for one thing - to reach the next level as a guitarist and musician, right?

So, if I were to give every guitar student just one single bit of advice, it would be to start a practice log. Not next week, not next month, but right now.

I say this, because starting my own practice log was the singular most important thing I ever did to boost my progression as a guitar player.

So I urge you - if you truly want to bring your playing to the next level (and beyond), now is the time to start your own practice log. Here are some tips.

Set specific goals/targets. Ultimately, you are the one in charge of your progress. What do you want to achieve?

Start a new thread. This will be YOUR individual thread, and you keep it continuously updated. Other members will come and check out what you're working on, and they will see updates about your progress.

Put your goals list right at the top of your new thread so it's easy for other members to follow along.

Decide on an update schedule and stick to it. Remember, you're in charge of your own progress. I recommend updating your practice log weekly, at a minimum.

The truth is that people who keep practice logs WILL achieve better results than those who don't. That is why I invite every member to keep their own practice log, tracking goals, targets and accomplishments unique to them and their goals.

Put your goals right at the top of your posts; that makes it easy for us to jump in and start following along. Then you can fill us in on all the details just below your list. Basically, you're creating an outline.

Update your log with date and what you worked on, and for how long. Here is an example:

2017-03-20
Total: 2 hours.
Practiced the 5 pentatonic boxes for 30 minutes.
Major scale practice for 30 minutes.
Robert's Easy 12 bar blues solo for 60 minutes.

Remember, you are capable of supercharging your progression as a guitarist. Start tracking your practice today, and you’ll accomplish more and more.

So, are you ready to start your own? Splendid! Go here and start YOUR own thread - that thread will be your personal practice log.

See you in the woodshed!

Members, I think the practice log is a great idea to reflect progress and sustain motivation as well as help others understand and learn from each other in the community.  Rock On, and practice!
