Robben Ford or Mojo Working!

"Also playing a simple phrase over and over to the point of total boredom somehow leads to unexpected treasures. At some stage the creative intuition kicks in and I play something most unexpected." Yessir.  Or I make a mistake that sounds cool, so I repeat it and now its a riff.

Yes, Clayton, I agree.

Perhaps I am to accurate some times. Before it takes me off the orginal lick/tune/stuff I aim to get it perfectly. With the idea to "understand" what x or y is playing. But, as I experienced with learning note by note Robben Fords first Solo in Peace On My Mind he played on the Rockpalast-Stage here in Germany 2007, to play it note by note leads me to nowhere. I am   still a beginner and maybe therefore there is to much respect to what others play or have played.

I will think about what you've said  - maybe there's freedom where  I don't expect it.

Best regards

Gottfried

And the log of the day:

Spent 3 h reorganizing my pedal board with cable ties and power drill.

Besides my usual program yesterday I contributed to the running MGA Jam with a lot of difficulties in load up the file -  and even more help from the community in here to get it in. A very pleasant experience.

Today numb fingers and mind, time for a break, maybe even for christmas holiday.

So all switched off and it's peace and quiet.

There are a lot of things to do before Christmas. So, if we don't see us here until 2108:

I wish you all a peaceful and good time.

Gottfried

20. Dec 2107

Day off and I like it. Grabbed the guitar unplugged 'cause passing by,  just for fun and a moment. The T-Bone-Scuffle found the way out of my fingers. Like it too.

03 Jan 2018

Practicing time (still running, just a break) about 3.5 h

An new year, time to make good resolutions.

I have to calm down with my efforts to go on go on go on. Although I spend a lot of time in my practice-room, I am bogging down (if that's the right expression) in all the offerings around here. So I will try to keep this practice blog running, but will concentrate on single courses instead of a bit of this and a bit of that. In consequence I will hang back a bit in MGA-Jams and whatever might be more of this in the near future. Anyway...

Started the Voicing & Comping the Blues-Lesson today.

Although I am quite familiar with Dominant 7 Voicings I found things in the first sections which will deepen my knowledge AND playing.

To everybody who take notice of this blog: A happy new year!!!

Aha, I see, I mentioned the T-Bone-Scuffle on Nov 30. So it took about seven weeks to record it in just one shot. Not that I worked on it every day, but it came around again and again and it gets familiar.

The link is posted where it belongs, the Blues Forum.

Any feedback is welcome.

Next I will start the Reconsidering Blues Lesson. See You in March....  😀

Time runs fast - more than a month ago I posted my last Practice Log...
Because I am using also my private Practice-Log, I will not log every day or week in here.

But I am still going on, busy with the Triad Voicings/Comping With Triads- and the Reconsidering Blues-Lessons. I'll post a recording of the Blues Lesson, when I made it mine. Perhaps I'll try a video....?

As I said in the Blues-Forum: >>Today I worked it through this wonderful admirable Reconsidering Blues by R.R. ...  I love these Clapton like licks, especially Lick No. 10 & 11, the melodic 21 & 21-licks up to the double stops and the way these doublestops are dissolved.<<

I say it in here once more. I hope, I'll get it out of the pocket soon. I love it.

Another point: Everytime I step into the MGA page, there's so much new stuff!!! I got to discipline myself, not to get lost in it. My rate in learning, practicing and trying to learn more about it than the notated licks (where are they and why and how do they work, how does the melody follow the chord progressions etc.) is far behind what and how much Robert is offering in here.

Do you, out there, keep up with Robert, do you?

I keep up with myself.

My process is to take any lesson/lick(this applies to Non theory lessons like reconsider blues) and listen first. It's all about improving my ear first then my skill set. Then I break the lesson down into manageable pieces. I usually identify with bits and pieces. Rarely does any lesson (anywhere on the Web for that matter) resonate completely. I'm creating my own sound. So I use what I identify with and move on. Sometimes he really gets inside my head (which is great)

Theory lessons are a different matter. For me much more significant and applicable. I dedicate a lot of  time to  these. They are pure gold.

I love the interaction with this community and get lessons from unexpected places.

What is a Huge bonus is the student focus forum. Posting a video and getting a personal lesson /esponse from Robert doesn't get any better than that! Iam amazed at how few people utilise this incredible opportunity!! I try to post one a month. It's just the best way to augment your learning.

Craig, thank you for your reply. Yes indeed, that's the way I take my steps, keeping up with my tempo and abilities (which aren't out of different reasons not always like I would like to). Posting a video, I am determined to do so with my next recording.

Do it. That would be great! Really looking forward to seeing you play.

This is my latest jam track effort.

Feb 19 2018

I am still working on the Reconsidering Blues. Unfortunately not in my practice-room, because there's a heavy-duty dryer working to get the water out of a wall. No chance to make music in there. So I grabbed the essentials and switched into my living room.

And I spend quite a lot of time with different triad lessons Robert is offering. That's kind of surprising  experience. I know all these basic chords but never tried to seperate them in parts/triads over three strings. It's like walking well known paths which open new sights and suddenly aren't that well known as I thought they were.  I am not in hurry with this - yes - basic stuff. And I am amused that my fingers are way of  stubborn to remind the shapes....
