@clayton So I am following in your metaphorical footsteps! We took our RV up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper in July. What awesome mountains in the Canadian Rockies. Who knew?
Thanks for the feedback, I am going to post a final version of this song fingerstyle with a different guitar. Now that I have the melody more or less I seem to want to jazz it up and make it my own more. Then back to learning Bob's Blues, triads, chord melody, etc. etc. ad infinitum.
@bobkarstens So nice to see and hear this on video.
I really love this sound!
@bobkarstens I have great respect for your recording, Bob. It’s not easy to play such a challenging song and you did it so well. Thank you so much for sharing.
Presenting us the video, I think, you gave yourself an early birthday present.
Enjoy your day tomorrow,
Birgit
So here's as good as it gets until next Christmas!
The final version of this but it was a great learning experience (and selfie birthday present too!) because I showed myself that while practice may make perfect, this ain't perfect but it's good enough. Perfection is the enemy of the good. So now I want to get back to practice rather than focusing on performance. The basics of Blues lie ahead.
What a calming Christmas atmosphere, Bob. I'm impressed.
You look very relaxed and you also play very relaxed. Beautiful. That is good for us all in these tough times.
A big thank you and happy birthday,
Birgit
Again great playing!
It so relax how you play the finger style!
Happy birthday, and have a great day!
Perfection is the enemy of the good.
Perfection obscures my expression of the art. To some greatly skilled folks, perfection is the expression of their abilities, and I tip my hat to those who don't hang out at Sloppy Joe's.
But here's to you for sharing an intimate part of your efforts and passion. (I particularly enjoyed the note slides).
That's was awesome! I really enjoyed watching and hearing your improvement by that last video. It's very clear that practice pays off! You were so much more relaxed for this last video, and your phrasing vastly improved.
I'm glad you shared this with us, as it not only inspires us, but it also shows us how practicing leads to improvement.
This isn't really a practice log so I don't know if it belongs here. I just laid some loop backed guitar over video footage of snorkling with manta rays in Hawaii. I am working through the tech and process of editing music and photos or video together since it's a good way to showcase two hobbies...and what else is there better to do anyway?
Your guitar playing is very well attuned to the video. Fantastic pictures.
And your guitar playing lowers my heartbeat 👍.
Great,
Birgit
That's really sweet. Very emotional. Touches deep.
“Night Rays” there’s another good band name! Bob that was beautiful and the simplicity washing over such grand creatures and systems put it in context. Nice Art, brother.
This is the progression that I found on Youtube that turned me on to Robert's accessible approach to teaching guitar and focus on triad shapes everywhere. My ear took over first and things seemed to begin to flow a bit more easily after I spent many hours going thru this melodious progression. (I still don't really have it down tho.)
This is the 3 min video I made using iphone pix from camping at McKinney Falls in our RV which I wanted to experiment with as a mobile studio. (Yes, it can be done, eventually, carefully with much organization and experience. ) I'm tempted to redo it but I won't. I'll do another.
Speaking of which, here's a clip of me murdering Robert's sweet little blues solo in C. Several times. So sweet, so simple, so easy, Not. So...I took my liberties with it instead.
Since this guitar thingy seems to have been haunting me for the past (gulp, 60! years) thankfully I think I'm starting to slow down and listen more deeply. Practice makes perfect, I know...and finally I have plenty of time. (Fingers and joints are wore out but hey....! Thanks for the inspiration. )
