I‘m still learning Robert's Jingle Bells Blues. This is very challenging for me, but incredibly fun.
Chorus and verse already go quite well. I will then repeat them over time at intervals.
The solo is tricky and I have divided it into individual parts, which I practice separately, including the triplets at the end.
I'm still confident that I can do it by Christmas if !!! I keep at it.
At the same time, I'm trying to play the melody of what I consider to be the most beautiful ballad of all time: Wonderful tonight. What a challenge !
After many attempts I‘ve now succeeded for the first time in playing the intro and the first verse one after the other to the backing track.
I’m so glad, because I‘m still a beginner with the bendings and I need time to improve this.
The fact that I already have the melody in my head and knowing the sequence of the chords in the backing track helps me a lot to carry the melody over the chords.
Of course, everything still has to run more smoothly.
And yes, the posture of my right hand is again not loose enough. I will continue to work on it !!!

@bluesiline What a Moment! Meeting such a personal goal- you must be so happy!
I know those moments and consider them some of the best and happiest of my accomplishments.
Great job there!
Like you say, know the melody and chords in your head is the key! It's really a must. If you don't, you're flying blind and could crash at anytime. 🙂 ✈️
At the same time, I'm trying to play the melody of what I consider to be the most beautiful ballad of all time: Wonderful tonight. What a challenge !
Wow Birgit, how nice is that learning a song you like so much. In your case Clapton's-Wonderful tonight. I love what I hear, thank for sharing that!
What a surprise André, thanks for your kind words and good to have you back 👍. And with a new name that expresses your enthusiasm for SRV.
I wish you always a lot of fun playing your wonderful guitars.
Birgit
@bluesline
You're welcome Birgit.
Yeah indeed my Cousin has give that Nickname Stevie Dre.
He said, you as a big SRV fan give I you the Nickname Stevie Dre. Stevie's first-name and the last three letters from my name. I'm very happy with that nickname.
I have follow a course for my new litte Webshop and a lot of rules what has must be done before I could started the shop. And I try to make transcribe guitar songs to Tab. In the next coming years I wanna less do with the company I now do. And hope to do more with my hobby.
So my Guitar hung most time on the wall, only with the band i played the electric guitar. Since a while I follow Acoustic guitar lessens from a great guitar player in Holland. Have wrote a 18 Dutch songs and my desire is making the music for the written lyrics. But that is difficult for me, but needs time and patience.
So now i grab my guitar go further with learning SRV/KWS songs.
And Birgit thanks a lot from kind words too. 😀
Thank you so much Robert!
@Robert, I would like to follow up on your live video on backing track practice. First of all thank you so much for your live stream and the topic, because right now I‘m also really focusing on when the chords change in a chord progression.
As an example I have a backing track to up around the bend by CCR.
During the intro I realized that I can’t play the last bar of the intro without then starting again correctly at the first verse. This was too fast for me to get from top to bottom so quickly on the fretboard. So then I just played the open D string over the whole last chord of the intro, to then get into the 1st verse, without getting lost.
This only works for me because I have the chord progression in my head and can also follow the backing track in my head, so far for the intro and verses 1 and 2.
Birgit
That's how you do it. Take the time to get ready for when the verse starts. You might want to try with a cleaner sound when you strum the chords. Well done!
Thank you, Robert.
I left the humbucker because I still find it hard to change the pickup with my pinky after the intro.
It certainly needs a lot of practice too, because I haven't needed this with my previous songs yet.
Birgit
Robert, your new video « YL45 A minor scale practice » is a wonderful practice lesson for my fingers. At the moment my skills are only sufficient to practice eighth notes.
It‘s challenging for me and I still need more practice but it's incredibly fun to play to your backing track 😊.
Birgit
@bluesiline Wow Birgit you have learn the 1/8 notes from the Am scale fast in one week. Very nice to see that. By the way, i love to jamming in the Am, wanna memorized it over the whole fret board. I have a rock background in Am and practice that sometimes.
That is excellent! I am so glad to see you do this. I hope more members do!
Playing scales in different ways is the best way to get your fingers in check. These types of exercises is the foundation for being able to express yourself freely.
I will create more complete exercises like this with Soundslice. For example, this one scale all over the fretboard, but broken up into sections like this video. Then play a section with different sequence patterns too. Guess what, eventually it's going to sound like music! It's all about variation in notes and rhythm, but the scale is the key. You have got to know the scale in order to reach that freedom I'm talking about.
I could also provide the track at different tempos.
Any thoughts on my thoughts?
