I have played this exercise many, many... yes and many more times, and thought to post some electric variations once MGA 2.0 was loaded. BUT, in the course of the afternoon I was playing my little acoustic Taylor GS mini and using my voice recorder cell phone app, AKA the Mobile Recording Pocket Studio or "MRPS."
So here's a little work around the Hendrix Chord Embellishments lesson and a little of Robin Trower's Daydream added at the end. There's no editing, just record and save. Seems a digital hiccup in the end of the Hendrix piece but methinks that was the phone multitasking an incoming text or calendar reminder.
There's two recordings of the Hendrix, first one with Trower and the second just Hendrix. Enjoy!
Hey Clayton. Nice recordings. I really like the tone you get from that Taylor.....authentic "on the porch" feel and sound. Well done bud!
I found so many gems in this Hendrix Style Chord Embellishment Lesson. It's a doorway to so many aspects of playing that really enrich my options and style.
Thanks, Ivan, something about my porch that makes the playing easy.
The Taylor GS Mini is the best $450 US I've spent on an acoustic- feel, sound, action and portability!
Now add the porch, the GS mini, and the cell phone app and I have instant action!
Sweet work, David. It's also great fun to noodle around with, isn't it! A fun way to explore the fretboard, and to practice all these little triads and melodies available.
Thanks, Robert- it is downright addictive to finding ways to play those inversions and triads, and then to lay in those rhythmic chops makes for infinite play variations.
My funky drummer is dying for me to get up to speed on Wait Until Tomorrow. I love the song but he's going to have to wait a lot longer than tomorrow before I'm slaying that tune in real time. Until then, it's some Little Wing, Wind Cries Mary and Daydream.
Nice going Clayton... all sweet stuff! Don't stop... or wait until tomorrow!
How are you getting these tunes together... is there a book, video or other that has been helpful?
Thanks, Chris! The "Hendrix Chord Embellishments" was Robert's lesson from last year as a Renman take on Axis Bold as Love. Spectacular lesson which required a lot of time to get the theory, flow and feel of the tune. Only after mastering that did I move on to laying in my own personality and minor variations.
Daydream is a Trower tune that I worked from a signature licks book on Trower. I love Trower's legato solos, crying bends and funky foundations with a hefty dose of gospel/soul 6ths in double stops. Great book for reference.
Robert gets all the credit for giving me the confidence and skills to play these chord inversion masterpieces.
I remember Robert's lesson. It is a great lesson. Interestingly enough I have recently begun working on Hey Joe and thinking I might take a look at Wind Cries Mary. Hendrix was an awesome talent, worthy of listening to again... and learning from.
The MGA Hendrix Chord Embellishments will get you waiste deep in the waters of Jimi's soul based style of acid rock. Robert knows how to get you up and running and teases out all the significant elements that will make you conversant in the language of his rhythmic dialogue. This is another core course at MGA.
Very nice Clayton, it sounds great on an acoustic guitar.
I am going to hit this on electric and, of course with the wah, along with the backing track and perhaps at a little quicker tempo. So much to do....
Good Job!
I practise it on acoustic from time to time. Morely to strengthen my hand. It's good training!
Clayton, Why I lost this?. Anyway, this is one of my favorites exercises...I love acoustic guitar and like the sounds you extract....
Sorry, I'm late to the party!!! I just began working on the Hendrix Embellishments this evening. What a great tune and a fantastic way to study triads, theory, and technique. Thanks for the great lesson. I have my work cut out for me. Cheers!!!
