I propose every month we nominate one of Robert's courses that we feel really make a difference in our playing and then we keep concentrating on mastering this course during the month. Not solely working just this one course but I like to make certain courses a consistent 'go to' deal in the hopes of really nailing the licks plus the many principles and techniques demonstrated by Roberto. Even though this month is already 8 days old, I nominate "Reconsidering Blues". I feel this course really hits solidly at the very core of quality slow blues soloing and stands out in getting me up to snuff with the touch, feel and tone of old school blues soloing with a few nice modern twists!! Jim C.
Capitol Idea- I second the nomination for Reconsidering!
Sounds like a good plan!
Great idea. Since I'm new and have only done 6 Blues Licks from 1 Idea, I'll learn from your suggestions. Sounds like I should try Reconsidering if I'm able.
I find the best method for studying Robert's soloing courses is repetition. Keep playing along with his detailed breakdown lessons........how many times it takes. Don't get discouraged because it becomes a shorter and shorter voyage but 5-10 times quite often.......or more if needed. Patience, Grasshopper........then your "reward" is to only need to work off the tabs to these lessons and refresh, refresh.......the goal is to be able to play these solos right along with Robert's performance study videos.......make them your own!! I see these as double duty courses for the most part......with some fretboard obvious restrictions 75% of these licks definitely flow acoustic and electric!! I find this is true especially with "You got to Help Me' and "Stout Blues". Again, this works for me so a bit of a disclaimer but drill and practice and learn to own them and you'll see a very fast and nice improvement plus find yourself stretching out and improvising on your own before you know it! Hope this helps!! Jim C.
PS I hope you watched "Kung-Fu" and appreciate the Grasshopper reference!!
😎
BINGO ! The real secret is what Jim said - REPETITION.
Oh and then play it even better than the originator!!!!!

I guess we can all dream a little. 😀
The only thing I can say is that I am working on Stout Blues. It took time till all licks were learned in proper order and now it is time to refine. In this last training I repeated at least more than 20 times and no happy with my performance. As Jim and Robert said, repetition is the key 'little grasshopper' to extract the little details, the essence, in summary the difference .......
Still working!!!! Have a nice day
There's Robert's nice detailed analysis, Esteban!! This does help.........I do so wish Robert did a similar deal as he has with his Advanced Blues Solo course where he isolated each lick so one can pull up any specific lick that needs more and more practice (hint, hint Roberto just in case you peruse these comments!!). His in-depth explanations section helped me tremendously......then go back and try mixing and matching licks from his other nice soloing courses in the key of A. Again, my disclaimer........this has worked well for me...........Jim C.

Ah, that rings true, Master Po. Will do. Yep, used to watch Kung Fu every Thursday night back in my Penn State days in the early '70's. Followed by Streets of San Francisco. My last name is Harper, so a buddy used to call me Grassharper.

Not like with your Advanced Blues solo course, Roberto........this course is the ultimate in utilizing limited playing time, just click on a troublesome lick and practice with no digging and delving........You have the 27 Licks nicely labeled and separated below the Breakdown section.
On the other hand with say your course (Stout) and you need to work on nailing down Lick 12.......you have to approximate the 20 minute mark of this course's run time and cursor around searching for beginning of the lick.............it's all doable and yes each lick is definitely labeled but much more fluid with the Advanced Blues Solo course. And now I've grown horns on my head for pointing all this out, right!!!??? Jim C.
Jim, use Soundslice. There, you can isolate any lick you want with ease. Have you missed this?
