For me it was 12. My mother allowed me to take 10 lessons and I learned how to read guitar music with the Mel Bay book 1.
I never had a guitar actually. The music store allowed me to rent one, but it was too big. Anyway, I always wanted to play the guitar but I found I had NO sense of rhythm and was tone deaf. The amazing thing is , at my age I'm still trying to pluck away on these 6 strings. Got better on rhythm and I can hear some notes on the guitar when playing by ear.
If you are hungry, then stay hungry for you dream in life.
Keep on truckin'. The rhythm will come and the ear will come... IMHO these skills can be developed and polished with practice. For me, it is a thrill to reach and stretch to a new goal and finally reach it, regardless of what that goal is. Speaking for myself I see there are lots more goals ahead of me to stretch out to...
I started at 13.
Music is a wonderful thing in that it can be a lifelong passion.
I started my sophomore year of high school so that would have been about 1964. And been playing ever since. Except I took a break from 1966 to 2014. 😀 😋 Lol
!977 I was 17 bought my first guitar which i promptly burnt, then bought the twelve string I used in Rainsong in 79. Bit of a haze there between guitars if you get my drift, ahh those were the daze!

I suspect there are quite a few of us on here that "get your drift"!
