The Top American Blues Guitarist Poll hosted by Sirius Radio BB King Bluesville.
Since, I would think, it's BB King Radio and he is, after all the "King" of the Blues the winner would be fairly obvious. But with popularity polls like this who knows what will happen.
I voted.
There are some interesting names on here. Some obvious ones. Some not so obvious ones. Some deceased, obvious ones such as Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters. Some new, young ones such as Eric Gales and Quinn Sullivan.
I was surprised to see Debbie Davies who I think is hugely underappreciated in her historical significance and largely unknown. I took a few lessons from her (years ago) and she is also about as nice a person that exists so I am admittedly biased.
What do you all have to say about this list? Who should win it? Who will win it? Who isn't on here that should be?
Did you vote?
Great list there. Some new names to check out... Thanks for the link.
Impossible for me to pick just one... there are several names on that list that are unfamiliar to me.
I wonder what the criteria is. If it just "my favourite" blues guitarist, it would be Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, BB King, Chris Cain (who should be on the list but isn't). Ask me tomorrow, I might give you a different answer. 🙂
I would say for my favorites on the list they would be Hendrix, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. But where is Clapton? Gary Moore? I don't know the old blues players much as I tend to listen to blues from the mid 60's and on. Guys who set standards of how to play is what I would vote for and for modern blues, I think that has to be Hendrix!
Interesting timing ... after I posted the above, I got a notice on my smart phone for a look at who Hendrix thought were some of the best. Here is the link URL:
