Actually I'm a day late. But 90 years ago yesterday Blind Willie Johnson recorded Dark Was the Night Cold Was the Ground. Had to be one of the first recorded blues songs. One of the first songs to turn us on to that sound from the delta and the area.
And one of the songs on the disc on the Voyager Space Craft.
I love it!!!. Thank you so much!!!
Nice way to start the day.

Great! Thank you!!
He died as a poor man. On YouTube there are 2.2 million hits to this song. Times changed, really.
It was 60 years ago today
that Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.
Take a moment to think of all those who endured the bondage of slavery and its aftermath, keeping on and bringing a unique view of the world through music (and so many other disciplines). I am completely amazed at the african-american experience and the crucible that made the blues. And think of an entire world that benefits from this art, and the ways in which music has given us a shared experience. Strength, suffering, and creation.

Indeed, well said. The world has been gifted an incredible legacy from these beautiful souls through such dark and tragic sufferings. So grateful .
