Here's a good exposition of jam discipline developing stamina, rapport, bass & drum locking in and exploring rhythm nuances amidst experimental sounds falling around the rhythm section.
From the Thursday night creation station jams, I laid down the bass line to The Pretenders' "Ohio" My drummer, a very intuitive multi-instrumental talented fellow, locked in while keys and guitar seemed to try our resolve. Actually, this is just the discipline of experimental jamming, and the keys artist is very talented.
Let me toot my metaphorical horn and say, I am really proud of the tone, timing and conversation among bass & drums. But do yourself a favor and listen to the whole clip with good headphones or speakers. Mostly, listen to the dialogue and diligence.
Clayton, it’s great to hear how you can adjust to each other again and again. You can only learn this jamming together like you do, being flexible and having the courage to trying out.
Thanks for sharing,
Birgit
The session time is work in the woodshed that is very rewarding. Learning to listen and respond with my instrument, and to trust what to play and more importantly, what not to play.
All the session jammers consider this therapy for the soul.
