Here's a short intro clip taken from setting up a new recording space for the Thursday night crew. This was just the drummer, our regular guitar player and me as we were getting gear and mics set. I usually play bass Thursday nights but, since we were breaking in the basement space after a break I brought my PRS SE Custom 24 and Blackstar HT-5R amp. I had to push the Blackstar hard to keep up with the full and lush reverby delay sounds of our regular guitarist's Fender DeVille.
So, here's a little Santana'esque gain from me as we set sound levels.
@matonanjin, oye como va, baby!
What a cool new recording space you have there, Clayton, great. I also like the floor, it goes wonderfully with the skull banner 👍.
I’m convinced you will feel comfortable there and create new ideas together.
Nice to hear how you balance your sound levels: It almost sounds like a little Santana inspired song to me 😊.
Thanks for sharing,
Birgit
That looks like a great pirate hangout. Awesome.
@robert It is a pretty big space for a basement. The ceiling is 7' and lots of classic tile floor and knotty pine paneling. You can see there's a bunch of 2'x4' acoustic panels (grey and black) brought in from the former session space and the photo only captures about 2/3rd of the room size.
What a cool room!
Sounds cool!
How did you record it?
Oh, our drummer, who is also a wicked guitar player, is an audio specialist, head of live sound at a local university, records into reaper via a 16 input presonus board with a combination of collectible microphones and Direct inputs. Amazing.
It's nice to hear, Clayton, how you, as seasoned musicians, can use Reaper and do such wonderful things with it.
I only use Reaper on the surface, so to speak, but I've been totally enthusiastic about it for years, also because it's so easy to get started compared to other DAWs.
Here and there I try to familiarize myself with some of the finer points and I'm always surprised what Reaper has to offer.

The Pirate Sessions reconvene this Wednesday night. We are truly fortunate to have multi-talented Mike on the drums and as engineer.
Resumed the Pirate Sessions last night with me back on bass forming the classic Guitar-Bass-Drums power trio. Should have some mixed down clips Sunday evening.
