Hey guys,
My old friend Pete and I went to an open mic night at the local watering hole. We managed to record most of the track we improvised to! The beginning was drowned out by the crowd (hence coming in at the middle in the recording) but they settled and most started watching us!
Its to the MGA backing track days passing in Cm.
My first solo is at the beginning for 2mins 7 secs. Then again at the 5 minute mark.
My great and talented friend had the awesome solo in the mid from 2:07 to 5:00.
Let me know!
Craig
Sounds like you had some fun. I'm sure it was awesome but to be honest with you I am not hearing any sounds from the file... I cranked it all the way but... nothing. The problem could be on my end but still, I thought I should tell you.
Update: Problem solved over here. Sorry for the false alarm. My initial assessment re having fun and great playing still stands! Great job. Sounds like the crowd appreciated you guys. Long track. Now a couple of quick questions...
Is it common in your area to...
- Use backing tracks at Open Mics?
- Play lengthy jams at open mics?
- Did you connect your phone to the board to play the track?
Thanks
Craig

No problem here. I just clicked on the link(even working on my phone ) and got full volume. Must be at your end. 🤗
Yes, as I had mentioned it could be at my end. Since I had recently booted I thought I was clean. Recent sound card changes, that were overridden by a reboot were a definite factor! 😉 Sorry for the false alarm. All is well!
I updated my previous post.
Great job at the open mic!

Hey Chris, Thanks for the questions.
Backing tracks are sometimes used, I wouldnt say often, neither rarely.
Average jam time is between 5 to 10 minutes (just a guess really but it feels right)
I actually took my DAW on my laptop to access guitar rig and backing tracks through the local PA....Worked a treat!!
Craig,
That's slick. You have a method and it works. You had fun and sounded good. I suspect you will be going back to the open mic again.
Not that I am an expert but, in my experience, around here, we have open mics that seem dedicated to original songs, others are primarily cover tunes, still others have a 'front line' band where players can sit in with the full band and play, sing, jam...
Thanks for the reply.
Smoking hot vibe on those solos, really dig the dynamics building phrases. You two players certainly compliment each other which makes for a smooth jam and not polka dots with stripes. Crowd reaction certainly tells the presence you guys laid into that room.
Lot's of credit for plunging into a busy room, sometimes that is hard to find your space and anchor into your tune with all that activity. And trusting el computador is a bold step that seems to be working very well.
HATS OFF TO YOU, CRAIG, for getting out and laying it down, and sharing with us. Thank You!
Great! I really enjoyed that.
