Recently I received an invite to participate in an unstructured Jam with former bandmates. We previously played in a jam band that experimented heavily in improvisation and group cohesion through hours of practice without judgment.
So of course I said Yes, an grabbed my bass! These sessions are recorded and I've cut up a few pieces that are literally music creation on the spot, communicating and exchanging ideas solely through instruments.
Here's two selections from the evening where the Taliban became subject of lyrics.
Here's two more recording clips from the Jam Project. I really enjoy the freestyle structure and creativity. It is a bit on the edge.
Clayton, what a built-up of tension in Crackers. One is already shaken up. Great.
And yes, the Mountainside jam is a bit on the edge for me, especially the section (01:50 - 03:46) sounds like a combat flight squadron for me. That is probably due to the title of the jam (Taliban Jam 2).
But your creativity could flow and I’m always surprised about it what can emerge from an unstructured jam when masters of improvisation come together.
Thanks for sharing,
Birgit
@bluesiline Thanks! Seems my addition to the project has moved the group to consider arranging some segments into cohesive songs.
There are about 8 clips that I have pulled from the first two jam sessions. But some of the lyrics are harsh and may be offensive so I'm only distributing on request. I find the lyrics brilliant and poignant.
