Actually, that's what the first album is called: ZZ Top's First Album. Saturday night I fired up that Cadillac to go pick up some sushi as part of Mrs C's birthday celebration. During my short jaunt I blindly reached into the console, fumbled past the 38 revolver and switchblade, and found the afore said album cd. Yes, my pimp'n DTS has a fine Bose system which immersed me in some fantastic syncopated Texas guitar power trio goodness.
Can I get an amen for the Reverend Billy Gibbons and crew?
Clayton, as a woman, being generous with the band‘s „lyrical embellishments“, I have to recognise Gibbons‘ particularly captivating blues guitar style and the fantastic and thrilling rhythm and vocal parts of his crew.
Oh, yes!
That's why I must state plainly: You get an amen!
On a cloudy, cold (37 F) Wednesday morning with a lot of snowflakes falling from the sky I’ve had a very good start listening to "Brown Sugar". It has been a long time ago now since I've heard it last time.
Thanks a lot, Birgit
Funny, Birgit, I did realize the lyrics have a different light upon them these days, but I prefer to think of it in context and frankly very liberal with regard to multiracial relationships. In interviews, Billy Gibbons tells of his African American sitter taking him to experience chitlins circuit type blues and soul acts that shaped his views on people and music. I like to think Billy's telling folks to lighten up and realize the value of love beyond your own circle.
And, Yep, besides all that, Billy and the band really put Texas energy into a Hendrix/Stones influenced tune. Powerful and unique!
