Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase the Blues Away.
"Dive into the career of the legendary blues guitarist, a pioneer of Chicago’s West Side sound and major influence on rock titans like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Featuring new performances and interviews with Carlos Santana and more."
This is going to have to be fascinating! We have seen Buddy Guy 2 or 3 times here in either Lincoln or Omaha and most recently (last year) on the Blues Cruise. What a great entertainer and incredible guitarist. The DVR will definitely be programmed to record this one! 😉 😆

"American Masters presents the broadcast premiere of Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase the Blues Away, a new documentary on living legend George “Buddy” Guy, a blues master who transcended his early years as a sharecropper in Lettsworth, Louisiana to become one of the most influential guitarists of all time. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and eight-time GRAMMY winner, Guy is a pioneer of Chicago’s fabled West Side sound and a living link to the city’s halcyon days of electric blues. American Masters — Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase the Blues Away premieres Tuesday, July 27 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). , pbs.org/americanmasters and the PBS Video app — just days before Guy’s 85th birthday on July 30.
This new documentary features intimate, original interviews with Guy and archival and never-before-seen performances, including footage of the blues legend on stage with the likes of President Obama and The Rolling Stones. Interweaving archival interviews with Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Willie Dixon with original interviews with musicians Guy influenced, including John Mayer, Carlos Santana, Gary Clark, Jr., Kingfish and more, American Masters traces Guy’s rich career and lasting impact as one of the final surviving connections to an historic era in the country’s musical evolution.
After moving from Louisiana in the 1950s, Guy quickly rose to prominence as the go-to guitarist for Waters and Howlin’ Wolf amidst the iconic Chicago blues scene, directly inspiring The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and many more. Yet solo commercial success consistently eluded Guy until a late-career breakthrough in the 1990s. A tale of decades-long perseverance, Guy’s journey reflects both the Black experience in America in the 20th century and the history of the blues."
Thanks, Ron, I am looking forward to that. Now if I can find a blank Betamax Tape.
And then listen to some his music on 8 track? 😜
I'll be keeping an eye out for this too! Thanks for the tip off!
I, too, would like to say thank you, Ron, for this recommendation.
I’m very interested in watching this documentation but I can’t receive PBS via satellite. However, I found out that it could be possible watching this episode on the PBS YouTube channel paying a fee.
I’ll wait until premiere day!
Thanks, Birgit
@bluesiline does your satellite tv provider not have local channels in your line-up? Do you use Dish or DirectTv? (Do not get me started on a rant about these guys!) You should be able to get PBS OTA (Over the Air) without much trouble. A cheap indoor antenna plugged into the "Antenna" input on your TV and you've got nearly 100 local channels including PBS. Depending on where you live and how close you are to the transmitting towers.
We just moved (literally yesterday) from where we had been for 41 years. We couldn't get cable where we were at. After years of abuse from satellite providers we went to just OTA and streaming. We could get everything we want on TV with that set up.
After resting up, sort of, from the move the first thing I did this morning was set up my OTA antenna. We got Cox setup yesterday for internet but no cable TV and certainly no satellite. We won't.
I just watched this last night and what a great show! I can't recommend it enough. If you missed it my program guide shows it's going to be rebroadcast a few more times this week and next. Or, it will probably be available to stream from Hulu or some such source.
I have no doubt I will probably watch it again.
Ron, nice to hear that you enjoyed it.
I didn’t watch the episode. I informed myself again. To watch US TV in Europe I had to install a VPN (virtuell private network) that changes my online location to get an American IP address while my IP address will be disguised. Not that easy. And an annual subsription is required. I didn't want that.
Birgit
Birgit,
A person just posted this on another forum. Hopefully, there are no restrictions as to your online location to stream it. I wouldn't think they check your ISP location?

Let me know. If all else fails we will resort to a copyright infringement 😯
Ron
Ron, it doesn’t work. I get the message:
« We’re sorry, but this video is not available »
The reason is that the website knows that I’m in Europe. Because of geo-blocking the access to online content is based on geografic location.
To unblock this I would need to get the previouisly mentioned app called VPN to change my online location. But this is terrain in which I don’t want to move.
And with our two geostationary satellites Astra and Eutelsat I can receive only the TV programmes from Scandinavia to Greece and from Ireland to Ukraine.
But thanks a lot, Ron
Birgit
@matonanjin, thank you for your demand, Ron. I haven’t seen the documentary yet.
The streaming services which let me stream various US TV stations require an annual membership and annual fee and not all films are available on demand.
And on Google Play and Amazon the documentary is not on the list to buy or borrow.
