Greetings. I've been getting Robert's emails since back in the dolphin something website but wasn't playing guitar despite good intentions. I've been at it for one year this month and decided it was time to ante up and join, so I did today.
I played rhythm guitar literally 50 years ago in high school but not much since. 5 years ago I tried again for a few months with a dvd course but didn't stick with it. So last year I started taking lessons locally for accountability. I'm also doing online group lessons with another site (not sure if it's cool to mention it by name here). So I'm pretty busy and have more than enough accountability. I bought a lesson of Robert's and also tried a free one and got hooked by the Soundslice concept, so here I am.
I like classic rock and the blues. I also like some jazz as well as fingerpicking in many styles which is a big problem; I can't seem to focus. Mostly doing blues at this point and trying to make sense of scales, chord formations and voicing etc. so I can learn what I'm doing and not just memorize. Long way to go....
I've got a Schecter C-1 Plus electric guitar and Fender Mustang 1 modeling amp and an old Guild acoustic from the early '60's, but I've been playing the Schecter.
Tom
Baltimore welcomes the 'Burgh! Seems I remember a nice music store in the North Hills on 19, and on the Southside, too.
Hope you find the inspiration and detail you want here at MGA. Hats off to you, Tom, for picking up a new challenge and lifetime habit.
Welcome Tom! Glad you could join us.
Sure mention your group! We don't mind. In fact, I'm very interested to hear about group lessons, and how it works.
Rock on, Major Tom!
Major Tom to Ground Control:
Clayton, I'm not familiar with those music stores and all of them from my youth in the 60's are gone.
Robert, I'm taking the group online lessons through GuitarTricks. As a "plus" member (extra $50/month) you chose an instructor who then sends you a questionnaire and writes a practice plan for you, and you can take the group lessons. There are three two hour long lessons each week. They use Zoom software and you can see and hear the others in the class. The instructor goes around to each to help with whatever the current lesson is, so everyone can see and hear, but he can mute and un-mute each student so it doesn't get cacophonous. The instructor can post pdf's of lessons etc. which you can download and print or save. He can also link to individual song lessons on GuitarTricks so you can play along etc. and he can evaluate. Works well as long as the group isn't too large or too diverse in ability. They also offer private lessons in this manner for an additional charge, of course.

Very interesting. I would love to see that in action.
I offer Skype lessons with members for $50 per hour.
