Found Robert on Youtube. Glad I did. Fits my style very well. Got a new red 335 Gibson, a 1989ish Fender 57 reissue strat and a Taylor 12 fret. Play 5 string,, 3 finger scruggs style banjo as well. Thanks , Taylor
Taylor, welcome to the MGA. That's a fine gear list....what's your address? But seriously, that collection makes for an interesting influence list. What's your palate of sonic faves and where would you like to go with growth here?
Hello Clayton. My faves are many but when I try to play it is in the Robben Ford vein. Early Billy Gibbons was always fun. That being said, my favorite band is Jethro Tull. I use the acoustic to learn Ian Andersons acoustic songs. Any way one of the things I find confusing is the various modes. I probably play in modes without knowing it! thanks for your attention.
Robert's Robben Ford style course was the thing that brought me into membership- it's incredible. And yeah, Reverend Billy, is a syncopated blues tone King.
Is Ian's stuff classic, rock, or progressive classical? No matter what you call it- it is unique and fun.
Looking forward to your time here with us!
Hi Taylor.
From Alaska, wow ! I'd like some of that smoked Alaskan salmon.
Post some of your music clips.
Taylor,
A belated welcome to you. Sounds like you are off to a great start... nice gear and MGA is a great combination. Have fun!
Thanks for the great welcome guys. Nothing better than fresh salmon. 30 below zero this morning. later
Hi Taylor! Welcome here! It seems you have warmer weather than we do. We had -41 C (-41.8 F) a couple of days ago.
I have a red 335 too! I bought a couple of nice axes in 2020.
Jethro Tull is a band I have never really listened to. Can you have some recommendations on songs?
Seeing that you like Robben Ford, hopefully you will enjoy the recent Bb solo I published.
Hello Taylor
I also would like to welcome you and I’m sure you will find your way here at MGA.
I would be very pleased if you could share occasionally some „cool“ and „icy“ Alaskan guitar sounds with us.
Enjoy playing, Birgit
Taylor,
Welcome to you. I'm also a Tull fan. I wouldn't say a huge fan but I enjoy them. A friend of mine, here in Nebraska, went to their concert in Lincoln a couple years ago. Yes! They are still touring! He said it was a great concert
What a lot of people don't realize how innovative they were technologically. They were the first to set up huge screens behind the stage. They called it "Tull Vision" or some such title. So when we go to a concert now and have the cheap seats we can thnak Jethro Tull for being able to see the band! 😉 😆 They had some other inventions that I can't recall now.
@robert, Aqualung has both the songs I'm going to recommend, the title cut, "Aqualung" and "Locomotive Breath", two of my favorites.
Well truth be told, I too, am a Tull fan, thought it has been a few years since I have listened to their material.
I actually bought a flute, inspired by Ian Anderson. Though I never got very far with it.
I agree Aqualung and Locomotive Breath are two great samples of Tull's music... but don't forget A New Day Yesterday...
I just came across this and thought about you, Taylor @t9g@comcast.net and Chris @jestme
Jethro Tull - Aqualung 50th Anniversary Special (Livestream with Ian Anderson)
Just fascinating. Ian Anderson provides a several minute commentary before every single song of the 2 record album is played. You will have to fast forward through the first 5 or 6 minute countdown. I don't know why they didn't delete that. I have to admit that I watched the entire hour and 20 minutes or so.
Thanks Ron, I put it on my Watch List and will surely check it out!
Hope all is well with you and yours!
Definitely have to catch this, Ron. Thx!
