In my beginning drumming I was a total novice, but with much practice over the years have improved; & I am here to say learning & picking up some drumming attributes totally helped me with playing/improving on guitar. I am actually quite shy about playing in front of people, but do make some selfie’s of me playing, as I am relaxed in my own setting and not being self-conscious 🤷♂️😜🤔 (stage fright). Over the years I have played both acoustic & electric guitar: fingerpicking blues w/some Travis picking style, boogie type stuff also, also luv bluegrass & did some flatpicking of fiddle tunes & such. I have a classic les Paul cool electric guitar, and the recent couple of years have been working with that a lot, …using my tablature, music reading skills I’ve acquired over the years. I kinda got dependent on reading tab & music, and only the past 2 years have concentrated more on learning music by ear! Which is awesome of course, … and now I incorporate all three techniques to learn tunes. I thoroughly enjoy learning new tunes & licks that I enjoy/ … is a special thrill when I feel I finally have come close to what I consider getting a tune pretty ‘well down’ … Not to forget to mention that I luv jazz also. I do struggle w/learning the ‘jazz language’ however…. My favorite is Swing jazz, and specifically what I would call blues-jazz/swing style. I did purchase some video lessons that I study & learn some jazz licks from, but have a long way to go in my musical development. ANYWAY: Howdy to everyone, glad to become a member, Sincerely… Vince
Hi Vince, welcome aboard.
I read your introduction with great interest and I‘m impressed by what you have already achieved. Great.
Robert has put so much heart and soul into putting together the learning material here on MGA and has an incredible variety of songs to offer. I'm sure you'll find the right thing for you.
You mentioned:
"I'm actually quite shy when it comes to playing in front of people, but I take a few selfies of myself playing because I'm relaxed in my own environment and not so self-conscious. "
I couldn't agree more. It's exactly the same for me, also because I am not that advanced yet
But if you still want to play in a group, maybe our MGA jammers group would be right for you. You can record your song in your own environment and then send it in.
We just finished our Jam 4 and Craig (wobbly_bob) has already posted about our Jam 5 today.
Check out our last 4 jams in the "Recordings & Jams" section and if you're interested, get in touch with @wobbly_bob.
Have fun playing and learning guitar
Birgit
