Hi everyone! I'm happy to be here!

I'm looking forward to becoming a better guitar player. I'm sort of an intermediate beginner if that makes sense. I was taking lessons last year but they were just too expensive. I didn't feel like I was getting anywhere.

I play a Strat and a Les Paul. My favourite guitarist is Mike Campbell. I love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I also love Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton.

My profile picture is of my dog Princess. She's a ten year old Shepherd mix. She means everything to me.

Thanks for reading my introduction!

Hi Dewey! You are so welcome to the MGA family! I hope you enjoy this place, and feel free to ask questions any time. Posting your clips and videos is something I highly encourage! See the Student Focus section.

Welcome, Dewey and Princess.  Be active on the site and your musicianship will be advanced to the level of play Ye seek!

From whereabouts do you two hail?

Hi Clayton, thanks for the note! We live in Bellingham Washington. I learned my first major scale today. I guess I have 4 more to go? I can play it with my eyes closed. I'm happy about that! Where are you from?

Hi Dewey, and I'm too new on the site. I'm learning the 5 boxes also. Almost got them memorized, well maybe.

Hey Dewey, I need to comment on your comment... there is actually only one major scale. Well, there are 12 different keys/notes in the musical alphabet, so I guess we can say there are 12 major scales, depending on how we decide to look at it.

Perhaps you are thinking about the Major Pentatonic? The same thing applies there, but we often learn the Pentatonic scale in 5 positions or boxes. Those 5 are simply different views of the same scale. There are no new notes - the pentatonic only has those same 5 notes no matter how you slice it. Unfortunately for us guitar players, the shapes and fingerings on the fretboard are different as we move the hand up/down the neck, and using different strings. See why piano players have it WAY easier than us? 🙂
