My name is rich and I've been playing, off and on, for about 40 years now. Started country but have started a love for Blues and Jazz. Lets see where this takes me.
Welcome aboard Rich. I know you'll find what you're looking for here at at MGA. Great instructor, lessons and community.
Enjoy!
Rich
Glad that you found MGA. There's a lot of great material around here, so start digging in. Have fun and let us know how it's going.
Hi and welcome! Glad you could make it. Blues and jazz is my love too, so I think I can help!
Wow, Rich, maybe its the tri-corner hat, but you look great for playing 40 years of playing off and on.
Welcome to the MGA, jump in and start swimming.
Welcome, friend!
Yes, I do look pretty good for a 63 year old, don't I. This is one of my grand-sons. It is a old pic and he is 16 now with a drivers license. You can't stop ol" father time. It's funny you should mention it because I have been trying to change the photo but the site will not except a different one. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong and I'll just have to figure it out.
Rich, I think that pics a keeper, as music keeps us young at heart.
Now, how about your music interests and goals?
Clayton, I started playing just rhythm guitar to older country music back in the 70's. Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, you get the idea. Just a bunch of guys sitting around, drinking beer, and singing and playing. Loved it! I have never had any formal training just learning from friends but I have always envied the guys who could play lead, not memorizing the lead to a song, but being able to improvise to a song even when they did not know the song, only the key of the song. So for the past 6 or 7 years I have been studying scales and theory to lead. My goal is to be able to sit down, play lead to any music and be confident about it. I have all ready learned my major and minor pentatonic boxes and feel really good about them. One thing I have learned is that it is better to learn licks than trying to learn the lead that some other profession artist has done in is song. Just too much information for me. Learning licks lets me use my imagination and play along with someone. I know you can find lead licks all over the internet but there is so much of a benefit to being a member of a group. New ideas can be found, somebody to ask any questions to. So, there you have it. I've been playing for years but still consider my self a beginner. Clayton, I hope you are having a great day and thanks for all the feed back.
Ya know I just had an absolute killer practice with my drummer tonight, and sounds like where you're aiming. Aw jeez, Edith, when country was real (although Paisly is a serious player)! This is the place to get those chops and RR is the man to serve your needs. Hey, cut a recording of Robert's country licks and post if you dare.
