Hi fellow guitarists,
I am past 70 years old. I started playing rhythm guitar at around 16 years old but stopped playing for many years because of my heavy work commitments. I seriously took up playing the guitar after I retired in 2012. I took lessons from 2013 for the Rockschool United Kingdom electric guitar graded exams. In 2017, I passed Grade 7 and completed Grade 8(final grade) in early 2019.
I am a follower of The Shadows (60's U.K. band that backed Sir Cliff Richard). I play lead guitar of their popular tunes like Apache and am a fan of the Ventures (60's American band). My friends call me "Hank" as I try to shadow Hank Marvin, lead guitarist of The Shadows. I like pop, rock and blues pieces.
I like the clear instructions given by Robert, was encouraged by his recent huge discount offer and joined his Academy last weekend. My objectives are to be able to practically apply guitar theories that I have learnt, further improve my playing skills, be able to improvise with ease and produce a CD collection of my favorite tunes.
My favorite guitar is the Fender Stratocaster although I also own the Gibson Les Paul and a 70's Ibanez guitar.
Merry Christmas to you guys/gals on this Forum.
Hello there and welcome to the site.
Seems we got a few of us here on or about the same time zone. I'm just a bit north of you.
Ventures, best band around. Hope to hear some of the Ventures from ya soon.
Welcome aboard. Sounds like you have been busy and having fun during your retirement. Keep it up!

Welcome to you and good luck. Such a similar story, to many of us, I'm sure. I was in a band in high school. But then I gave it up for college, grad school, family, career, driving kids to Tae Kwon Do lessons, football practices, etc. I seriously took up playing the guitar after I retired in 2012!
We are now here and Robert has some great lessons, Keep us posted on your progress.

I see what you did there 🤣 😉
Hello Hank! Great to have you here! Hank Marvin is an incredibly influential guitarist, actually. His influence on other more famous guitar players is huge.
The Shadows and The Ventures- Rock On, baby!
Thanks to all of you. I will post a recording of my playing in the near future.
