Hi, here's another "oldie". This one is from nothern germany. I'm following Robert for quite a while and now it's time to do it as a full member. So, what's to know about me: My english is quite poor (as you can read), nevertheless I am a passionated guitar player. Started decades ago on an acoustic guitar, entering the school stage with Dylan, Cat Stevens, Young and... Donovan (does anybody remember?), stuff like this. Years went bye, long breaks followed, children were born, a lot of work had to be done. I spent some years with classic guitar education until I reached the point, where what I want to play was to hard to practice and the stuff I could play was boring me. So I decided two years ago to start my retiree-career as an electric guitar player, concentrating on where it all comes from: the blues.

I left some more ore less unpleasent connections with other guitar/bass players behind me (it seems to be more complicated as I expected to find the guys where it comes to flow) and I am currently my One-Man-Band, armed with looper, beatbuddy and a few pedals connected with an clear clear Fender Hot Rod ML. What I am looking for? To get in touch with the unique sound (or at least come a bit close to) of B.B. King, find the melodic temperature (and a bit of the technic) of Clapton playing, combine it with some kind of strange sounding colours like Robben Ford does (or even Michael Landau is painting with... )
I am playing a strat, a SG, a Tele and my favorite, my Gibson Lucille (which recently got it's variton switched off), all of them made for guitar players much better than me, better than as I expect to be some day. BUT!!!!! A while ago some musicians behind the stage with Claptons "crossroads"-Festival were asked how they felt listening to Hendrix the first time. And one of them said (roughly), "we all wanted to dump our guitars". So it's just like me as I tried my first hendrix.

Ok. This should be sufficient to know about me.  And I hope my english is halfway understandable. But I did and do my best. And I am really looking forward to the stuff Robert has prepared in here.

Let it ring!

Wolfgang

Wolfgang

It's nice to meet you. I hope you won't be worried about your English. I understood you perfectly, without any problems.

I remember all of the performers you mentioned... I am also an oldie and also took time off to help raise my family. We are very similar in these respects.

I have heard several guitar players that are excellent players make comments about feeling like they always sound the same, and wishing they could play as well as another player. I think this is perhaps normal no matter how basic or advanced we are able to play.

I have read that Hendrix once said,

Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded.

So, I think, even Hendrix had to learn and grow and suffered from the same frustrations that we all do.

Welcome to MGA I hope you will enjoy it and learn a lot... and be rewarded.

Hi Chris, thank you for your encouragment.

Yes, you're right. There's no way to reach any goal (no matter which one) when you don't start with an first step - and don't mind how many may follow.

Hi Gottfried, welcome!

I know of an excellent approach to improving. My members may be tired of hearing me say this:

  1. Record yourself often!
  2. Share recordings
  3. Analyze and critique the recording
  4. Practice more and record again!

It works. Guaranteed.

Welcome, Wolfgang!  And yes, your English is very good, easy to follow and understand.  Nice artwork effect on your icon picture.

Donovan, now there's a unique style from the psychedelic days.

I am very interested in your one-man-band experiences and techniques.  Looking forward to hearing and sharing ideas and tips.  I hope you find the inspiration here for the sound you want.

Hello Clayton,

thank you very much for your encouragement!!! Concerning my One-Man-Band experiences, I will open up a topic in the forum section (if there isn't one yet) to talk about it. I guess there are a few others in here who are on the same road.

Wolfgang (who calls himself Gottfried in here)
