My name is Rene and I have been dabbling in music for a long time. After my retirement from the teaching profession, I decided to take lessons to, hopefully, become a better musician. My goal is to be able to jam with others not only with rhythm chords but also with solos. My music preference is blues, folk and some country. I have an acoustic Taylor guitar and have just recently purchased a Fender Strat with a Traynor amp. I also play an f style electric Epiphone mandolin at times but the bulk of my time is on the guitar.
Welcome, Rene! Thanks for joining!
A good way to become a better musician is to record yourself and share with us here. Then you get feedback and suggestions. The BEST way is to play in a band, but it's good to be prepared enough before doing that, and this place can help you get ready!
Welcome to MGA Rene. It's a great spot to help improve your knowledge, technique and overall playing.
Where are you from?
Chris, read the title of his post, at the top of the page... 😇

Words of Wisdom from the Shaman Renman
Hi there and welcome to the site and forum.
Post some of your music clips.
I agree with you, playing with a group is the way to go. I'm doing that and have discovered that soloing through different keys and chord progressions can be overwhelming! I end "spinning my tires" and getting lost. I am working on slowing down and listening to the music. I bought a looper so I can record song progressions slowly and solo over it. A very useful tool to practice a repertoire.
Slow down, listen more, and looping- sounds like your walking the Good Path.

I think we are running down the same road!
One other thing that I do is to load the song into 'slow down' software [Currently I'm using Transcribe]. Then I can slow down and loop the solo and other parts so I can work through them and try to polish up the tough spots.
Speed it up as things get worked out... sometimes I take it to 110% speed to help build up a little head room
Thanks for the suggestion, will look up that software.

Not ready for music clips yet but working towards it.

Hey what kind of an Axe is that you are playing there?
