Hi Everyone. I'm an old fart (70 years old) originally from New York. Spent 23 years living and working in the UK and Germany, ended up living in Australia where my wife was born. Been playing guitar since I was about 14. Spent many, many years playing in bands, duos, trios, etc. but mostly playing rhythm guitar. Slowly learned to play blues and it's one of those things that allows me to keep learning new things on the guitar. There are a lot of guitar teachers on the Internet, all teaching the same tedious riffs over and over. Robert always seems to surprise me with licks that are fairly easy (not always!) and not the sort of licks anyone else has on offer. The thing that bugs me is that sometimes some of Robert's licks are right there in front of me and yet I would not have discovered them if not for Robert. Robert Renman: The best man to steal licks from!!

Hi Ken! Thanks for joining! I am delighted you like my ideas. I guess I have developed my own style in some sense, over the years. I have always tried to come up with ideas that are a bit different that the typical blues licks and riffs so many use. I am very glad you noticed. 🙂

I think it's good to steal ideas from many players, because you will end up sounding more unique. Like Steven Wright said, "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research."

We would love to hear you play. Feel free share recordings with us anytime!

Hey Ken,

From one old timer to another... welcome to MGA. Robert is a great player and teacher. I know you will find lots to work on here. Have fun!

Native New Yorker (Hicksville, NY) myself, Ken.....and moved around the world and the US as well and even was a neighbor of Birgit's for years in Meggen, Luzern Switzerland!! OK.........we never knew each other.................but literally walking or jogging distance away from her! Small world!! Never been to Australia but fascinated with that continent and its wild life especially the stuff Steve Irwin was also fascinated with..........I am a proud owner of a very nice Aussie guitar however!! A newer Cole Clark FL-2!! Robert loves his guitars (and shirts!!) and will certainly challenge you to learn all things on the fretboard!! Ask Chris about his pet moose and outdoor grilling secrets!! You're in great hands with MGA.......I believe comedian Steven Wright said that one too!! Jim C.

Hi Jim, and thanks for saying hello. Always good to hear from a fellow New Yorker. This might really sound like a lot of bull, but in the late 1970's it was not uncommon to see John and Yoko walking in Central Park. No one really seemed to make a big deal out of it (typical New Yorkers!) and most people either said nothing at all or just hello as they passed by. I was living in the Bronx in 1980 and clearly remember what happened. Anyway, I really enjoy Robert's lessons. And his shirts! Both are the best on YouTube!!!

Hello there. Yep a few of us are up there in age, but playing the guitar keeps us young.

Like you, I left the States and ended up here in Japan.
