I've been trying to teach myself guitar on and off since my 20's I'm 65 now and still trying. I've been really concentrating on it again for the last 2-3 years, picking up the guitar practically everyday. I've tried live music teachers and on-line music teachers. I just cant seem to put it all together. I just want to be a somewhat confident player and be able to play something when someone asks me to. I've been into theory for the last couple of years and find it really interesting. I just pretty much finished the book Guitar Position Studies by Roger Filiberto and found it enjoyable. My present goal is to really learn the fretboard well and to learn triads really well. I like to play blues, i like the 70's bands - Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Stones, Santana, etc. etc., and Classical Music. I just recently ran across masterguitaracadamy while browsing youtube and like the way Robert teaches and the information he presents and I was impressed to see that he's been on youtube for 18 years or more. Hopefully I learn a lot of useful info and tools and will stick around for a long time also.
Hi Vinnyd!
It would be wonderful if you posted a video of you playing. It'll give me a chance to evaluate and I'll give you advice from there. I'm here to help.
I would love it if you joined out member jam too, when you are ready. See this page.
Welcome to you @vinnyd You will learn a lot from Robert. Check out his video lessons page. You and I have been on this planet a few rotations and have similar musical tastes, for me, especially the Santana.
Good luck to you!
Hey robert, thanks for taking the time to evaluate and advise my playing, really appreciate it.
Hello vinnyd
Before Robert takes care of you and your playing, I would like to thank you very much for presenting yourself and your playing here in the forum.
I know from my own experience that it is so important to get feedback in order to be able to develop further.
It's good to have you here at MGA. Enjoy playing and learning
Birgit
Hey sorry I am taking too long to reply to this.
Can you tell me what song you are playing in the first video?
The second sounds like Johnny B. Goode.
The first thing I will ask you to do is practice these songs with a metronome (or drum track, etc - a time keeping device). That is something everyone should do every day.
If you find it difficult to stick to the metronome, you'll have to break it down into smaller segments.
Try record something simple, like Bad Moon Rising (G, D ,C) Can you tap your foot while you strum the chords to the song?
The secret to great playing is GOOD TIMING. The metronome will over time help you improve this.
If you share more, which I encourage, please upload them to youtube or something instead and paste the link here because my hosting plan is filling up and videos take too much space here. I haven't figured out how disable uploads.
Let me know your feedback please!
