My Epiphone Sheraton II Pro Ebony is relatively heavy (4.2 kg (9.3 lbs) ) when I play the guitar standing up. My ancient textile strap is from my first acoustic guitar and is very uncomfortable.
But since I like to play standing up, I decided to buy a new and more comfortable guitar strap with very good padding properties, the Ernie Ball Padded Neoprene Comfort Strap.
I tried it for the first time today and I’m very impressed. The wearing comfort is excellent and my back and my shoulders are relieved a lot. Great !
I know that neoprene is not everyone’s first choice, but for me it brought a clearly noticeable relief.
I would be interested to know which guitar straps our members use and for what reason ?
Birgit
@Bluesiline I use Lakota Leathers straps on every one of my guitars. I think i have one without a strap and I was just thinking this morning that I need to get a strap for it. I was deciding which color to get. Translated: I was going to ask my wife what color 😉
I buy Lakota straps because they are made from Buffalo and just incredibly comfortable. They come in 3" or 4" and one has 4 colors to choose from.
But the added benefit to me is that they are made by members of the Lakota tribe, on the Pine Ridge reservation. The proceeds go to help a portion of our population that desperately need help. I have been to the Pine Ridge "Rez" many times, a recently as last year, and the poverty there is stifling and depressing to witness.
Again, they are great straps and I would buy them just for the comfort. The fact that they help the tribe is just an added benefit.
From the website:
"Each Lakota Leathers strap is assembled on the Pine Ridge Lakota Sioux Indian reservation in South Dakota, USA. Pine Ridge has the undesirable distinction of being the poorest county in the entire United States. The purchase of any Lakota Leathers strap not only gives you the ultimate quality, but helps provide income for people on the reservation. Truly a 'cottage' industry, Lakota Leathers straps are assembled in living rooms and on kitchen tables of the people who make these wonderful straps."
Thank you, Ron, for the interesting information about the Lakota guitar straps. I had a look at the website and your comments also inspired me to watch a video on Youtube with background information on how the company started, inspired by a Marty Stuart album called „Badlands“ and a song there called „three chiefs“ talking about the three chiefs of the Lakota past.
Kenny's great idea to do something against the poverty needs to be supported!
All the different straps are presented in the video and also the beaded straps. They are so beautiful, glass seed beads, each hand loomed and then placed onto a strap.
Since I also need a new guitar strap for my Dean guitar – I’ll take a close look at the individual Lakota straps again!
By the way, does your member name « matonanjin » have a connection to the Lakota tribe?
Birgit

That's beautiful, Ron. And while I have a mish mash of the usual heavy nylon straps with a moveable pad and one 3" Levy's leather strap, I am definitely going to hit the Lakota website.
Half of my time playing standing up is spent with a bass strapped across a twice fractured clavicle (collarbone) so comfort and weight displacement is key. But Jeez, that Sheraton is heavy as a precision or jazz bass!
Now let me as.....strap locks?
Ron, it’s possible for me to order a Lakota guitar strap through a music store here in Switzerland and I’ve just sent the order for:
Black American Bison, 2’’, for my Dean guitar.
Many thanks, Ron, for the helpful exchange here on the forum.
I’m looking forward to the delivery.
Birgit
I use Brookwood Leather straps. They are very well made and the best thing is they are built to your specifications. Bob Schell is a long time friend of mine and we have the same birthday - Dec 13. He is also a phenomenal blues player.
I have 4 of his straps. The latest strap I got is stunning.
@Bluesiline and @Clayton thank you for at least investigating supporting what I consider a great cause when getting a new strap. I say again, they are unbelievably comfortable. Birgit, you can not order a 2" though for your Dean. They only make 3" or 4". I've only ever had a 4"

Ron, on the LAKOTA LEATHERS website it is stated, that all guitar straps are available in 2 inch or 3 inch width.

And in the video Kenny is also talking about the 2 inch and 3 inch guitar straps.
see 3:49 – 4:04 of the video.
Ron, maybe you have a custom made one?

Robert, I looked at the Brookwood Leather website and I can already feel a lot of heart and soul that Bob puts into it. All the straps, including yours on the photos, are extremely well made with a great passion to detail. I’m deeply impressed.
And on the «customer comment» site, I also found one of your guitar straps, Robert, so beautiful!
Everything is customized and given the quality, I think, the price is more than justified.
However, I couldn’t find any information on the choice of leather. Maybe I missed it. Can you tell us more about it, Robert?
Birgit
@bluesiline You are absolutely correct. The choices are 2" or 3" (not 3" or 4"). I don't know where I got the options as 3" or 4". My straps are all the 3" variety not a custom made one. Thenk you for correcting me.
I apologize if I'm taking away the attention from Ron's post - not my intention of course. I just really like the straps I have but the Lakota straps are sure to be great too.
I don't know where he gets his leather, but I will ask him.

What?!?! Are you kidding? Aside from the fact it's your website, Robert! 😉 Birgit asked about suggestions for guitar straps. Which is exactly what you answered. I'm the one that should be apologizing for diverting the direction of the thread to my cause (away from her purpose)
No one needs to apologize, Robert and neither do you, Ron.
As Ron rightly said, I asked the members, what kind of guitar straps they use and for what reason and Ron, Clayton and you reported your experiences.
I’m really happy about that, because I made my choice, the neoprene straps, without knowing much.
Thanks to your explanations I know now a little more. I'm grateful that you all took your time to reply 👍.
And thanks to Ron’s explanations about the incredibly comfortable Lakota straps and his commitment to the Lakota tribe, I’ve already found a strap for my second guitar. Great.
Therefore: exchange in the forum is so important.
Birgit
My other 3 straps are cut to my specific length. I really like this, because having no adjustment feature makes the strap more comfortable and as a bonus, it will also cost less. 🙂
What's This?!!! Kindness and consideration on an internet platform?
Must be another day at the MGA!
Wonderful 😊
