This 'pedal' looks like a really fun and useful tool... and rather unique. Recently Robert mentioned using a JM4. I've watched his reviews on them and got GAS real bad...
During my googling around I found that GC in Ohio [nowhere near my location] had a used one for sale. So I bought it. Unfortunately for me it did not work properly so I returned it for a refund.
SweetWater and Musician's Friend have them listed as out of stock and on order!
Robert - mind if I ask if you still favor the JM4? Pros / Cons...?
Are there useful alternatives?
Thanks
It's great for practicing and even performing.
I'm not sure of alternatives. I'll think about that.
Pros: easy to use, comes with drums and tracks, can load your own tracks via memory card, slowing down tracks can be done, create loops on the fly which you can transfer to your computer
Cons: Tracks loaded via card must be mono only, wav files 44.100 hz, guitar modeling is from the Spider amps from yesteryear and may not sound as good as new modeling technology.
Thanks for the quick response Robert.
Being that I am now very knowledgeable in these areas, I wonder...
- Are MGA tracks in the wrong format to load on the card/JM4?
- Is there an easy way to convert them to correct JM4 format?
- Is there a great deal of fidelity lost when converted?
It seems like such a great combination of looper and drums I once thought there must be a lot of alternatives but I have not found any. I do believe the JM4 has been around for quite a while and therefore is not up on the latest technology. I'd hate to order one only to find out they have a new and vastly improved one coming out really soon.
I guess for now I can stick with my Ditto.
BTW Those were great JM4 videos that you made! I see them being used on Reverb by some JM4 sellers.
Thanks again.
Mp3 files can not be put on the JM-4, but you can easily convert them. I also have a few drum loops for the JM-4 in the right format. Lost fidelity - no big deal for practice.
Here are instructions for using Audacity to convert - https://www.wikihow.com/Convert-MP3-to-WAV
It has to be 16 bit, 44,100 hz and mono.
It's a very useful unit. I wish Line 6 would update it.
I see them on eBay for about $240.
Thanks, I may ask you for those drum loops if/when I get one of these.
I am aware of another used one and I am tempted... I'm a bit leery about getting a used one now, after my experience with the 1st one [that stopped working shortly after I started to enjoy it. It may have just been the power supply]. Especially since they have been around for quite some time now. The other problem with the used one that I bought is that, I think all the original setting, beats, songs etc... may have been altered and customized by the previous owner.
Thanks again!
