I have an old K Yari dreadnought from 1971. It is a classic and I really like it but it needed some fret work. I went to my local luthier who looked it over and said he could do a nice job for not too much money, There were a couple of guitars hanging on the wall including a Martin HD 28 which looked remarkably like my K Yari, including the double dots on the 7th fret and the volute at the top of the neck, almost identical. Obviously the Japanese luthiers had set out to copy a classic guitar. Well when I went back a few days later to pick up my K Yari I asked Rufus if I could try out the Martin as I had never played one before. Long story short, I left his shop with 2 guitars. I absolutely love the Martin and I never in my 50 years of playing ever had a guitar that played or sounded so nice. I have now committed my focus to revisiting all my favourite acoustic artists.
Nice, congrats! I've been thinking about getting a really good acoustic for a while now. Maybe next year, if everything works out. A HD-28 is fine instrument, indeed! Good choice.
Nothing like a new guitar to get energy levels pumped up. Congrats on the new guitar. You can't go wrong owning a Martin! Have fun
Nice story. I go to the pawnshops here and look for fixer uppers. Although I'm on a small social security income, I'll save around 30 or 40 bucks (4000 Yen) and then go shopping. I should post what I've bought, but really, there can be some really good buys at the pawnshops here.
