Any of our members have experience with the Line 6 POD Go? I have the Line 6 POD HD500X. It was quite a learning curve but when I am in my digital mode I like it. I say "digital mode" because I alternate between playing it and my tube amp, Blues Jr., and pedals.

Some of us have seen 5 Watt World's videos, especially his "Short History" series, and he is currently offering some patches for Clapton type tone for the POD Go. He designed these along with Jeff McErlain. Certainly, I wouldn't go to the expense and trouble of switching just to get the patches. But I have heard some quotes about the POD go such as "Helix Tones But Half the Price!". Hype aside I've also seen some positive comments from Jeff, Corey Congilio and others.

Anyone using the POD Go? Care to share your experience with it?

@matonanjin, Ron, it’s an interesting topic you‘re addressing 👍 . It would be nice if someone would report on this topic.

I’m still a layman in this area but I’ve informed myself about this topic every now and then in various videos, because I’m still looking for amp simulations and I would also be grateful for insider information.

I got information on the Line 6 POD Go from 2 German professional guitarists and teachers, Bernd Kiltz and Horst Keller, and they are enthusiastic about the sound quality -  and the price!!!

They confirm that the device works with Helix algorithms while the outside comes along more in the POD outfit and has almost half the processing power of the Helix.

What makes me particular curious is the fact that there is an « amp out » on the back side - which the Helix doesn’t seem to have (?). This means you can connect the LINE 6 POD Go to your own amp(s).

The signal is automatically branched off before the speaker simulation in the LINE 6 POD Go, i.e. the speaker simulation is not included in the signal and you can use your own amp, by using almost 300 effects in the Helix quality before or after your own amp.

Since the 2 musicians only used studio monitors in their videos, I would like to add one more question :

Who of the MGA members has already used the „amp out“ ?

Thanks,

Birgit

I have not tried it. There is a Helix plugin too, and I've thought about buying it. That way you get all the Helix tone in your computer. They have a free trial. Cost is $400 but you can get a lower "upgrade" price if you have one of the older units.

Nope. I do have the Line 6 Helix, a Kemper and all of the Fractal Audio products (Axe-Fx III, FM9, and FM3). I do have to admit I've been most impressed with the Fractal products above anything else digital I have in that Fractal Audio is very aggressive with updating their firmware. This can be looked at as a good or bad thing. The good thing is that their signal processing algorithms seem to be more dialed in with each release. The bad part is that if you have any presets designed for a previous firmware release, they might sound 'off'. This means you'd have to tweak them, if you know how (that's the trick). The Fractal products have a daunting number of settings you can customize in each block in the chain of your preset. The FM3 is the entry level model and is around $1,099 USD.
