That's Smooth & Tasty, loved prior R&L lessons, but this one should be every player's default. Gotta hit the wood shed.
I get a lot of miles out of RR's Rhythm & Licks lessons. So no surprise that I'm back on the R&L 4 after visiting E Porch Blues. These lessons Really Tie In the Big Picture for performing where you are holding it all down or playing well with others to trade off rhythm, solo and maybe just some color in between.
On R&L 4 I gained a new view of a b5 lick that I've played in my bag of tricks. That is, Lick #3 in this lesson uses that 4-b5b4 while holding the root on the next string above. My usual approach is to hold the Root (and maybe the adjacent 5th) with index finger on the high E string and then hybrid pick the 4-b5-4 and them sometimes down to the b3 and root on the D string. While the Lick #3 positioning is not as simple (more of a stretch for me) it opens up a new position for movement up the neck.
Does anybody else have those Ah-ha moments in MGA materials? If so, what are they?
