What did you guys think of this solo? Let me know your honest feedback. 🙂
@robert My "honest feedback" is I like it a lot. My only concern is that it might be a little advanced to be considered "beginner". I haven't studied but just listening to it once it seemed like quite a few bends, lots of vibrato and was there a double stop in there? But really a tasty solo.
@robert , like @ron, I like it a lot, and I fully agree with Ron, that the solo « might be a little advanced to be considered «beginner» », because there are many bends and double stops. Not so easy to learn for a beginner (like me).
And I also fully agree with Ron: it’s really tasty.
I still have one wish: I would prefer if you do not use a guitar stand - looks better to me holding the guitar in your hands.
Thanks a lot,
Birgit
Thanks for the feedback. I hope you guys try it. The bends are the easy ones - not worried pitch so much. The vibrato is always optional. You can play this without the double stops too.
The stand is something I need in order to have the guitar stay in the frame when I'm explaining. If I didn't have it, it would be very difficult for me to keep the guitar in full view at all times.
I'm enjoying learning this solo a lot. As an intermediate player (in my mind) I don't find it too difficult at all. I enjoy working on the "flavors" (i.e., bends and vibrato and double stops/bend) and with my new bass, the standard 12 bar blues bass line is easy for a beginner like me to play. So, using Garage Band, their drum tracks, adding my bass and the solo will be my eventual goal here.
When I was more of a beginner (not so long ago) I would tend to simplify pieces to make them ore accessible to my skill level. Good advice there, Robert.
One more thing... - Lt. Colombo.
I'm also learning YL34 - Blues Solo in C, which is only slightly more difficult. I'm currently transposing it down to A so I can play both solos back to back. It's going to be fun, I hope.
The key here is to get YL34 under my fingers in C, make good use of the SoundSlice. Then once it is under my fingers I will play it in A and see how it fits the backing track for YL38. Wish me luck.
Dan, interesting to hear what you are currently working on and how you go about it. Thanks for sharing - so we can always learn from each other.
And what a good approach learning to play the two solos back to back.
Enjoy learning and playing.
And yes, I wish you the best of luck 👍,
Birgit
Awesome to hear, Dan! I love it that you are transposing it. That is so valuable to do. That way you will remember and learn licks/ideas BETTER because of the work required. I am so glad to hear you are doing this. I highly recommend all students do this regularly - transpose (move) solos, ideas, licks to other keys and keep applying this approach on a regular basis.
GOOD LUCK!
@robert Yes, thank you.
In this case, transposing from C to A is easy. All I have to do is move everything down 3 frets. A better exercise (and more difficult) for me would be to play the solo in C but in a different area of the neck. I'll try that, too. I'm sure it will be rewarding.
You often recommend doing this type of thing with licks, and I must take your advice to heart more often.
Now I'm thinking I may transpose YL38 Easy blues in A to the key of C and play both solos a little higher up on the neck. I'll try both ways and let you know what I think.
